A match which doesn’t have a single score for 20 minutes could be deemed boring but this was anything but.
We last played here at U10s? or thereabouts but this time we were on the main pitch sitting in the grandstand.
Newbury took the early advantage and there was 10 Minutes of Banbury defending to watch. Banbury then returned the favour and spent 10 minutes in the Newbury 22. No score and no real sign of a breakthrough.
Newbury then get a breakthrough to score but fail to convert (it was very windy here). A yellow (at the more severe end of the spectrum) and Banbury put two scores on the board with one converted.
Restored to 15 players Newbury are still in this but a fantastic interception by Ali gives us another 7 points.
I thought game over but Newbury had other ideas. They get a scrum penalty and pile on the pressure to collect another 5 points. “One more try” their captain says but thankfully after a missed conversion the ref (very good by the way) blows up for full time. Phew!
