You’d think that this was an easy win. You’d think that Quins hadn’t improved from our away win. You’d be wrong.
Banbury scored two quick tries (one within 60 seconds) and looked like this was going to be a win by half time. Quins however didn’t agree with that storyline and suddenly woke up.
They calmed down, started to play and controlled the ball in the centre of the pitch. Banbury seemed to stall and the game became one of attrition with neither side making progress. Quins got 5 points back and we ended the half at 12-5.
The second half was punctuated with many Banbury penalties but the ball was mostly in the Quins 22. The contest there seemed to define the game. If Banbury scored then theyd go on to win.. if Quins scored it would be “game on”.
Two or three times the ball went close but not over. Eventually we got it and that was the game. Having made the breakthrough our opponents had nothing more to give and two scores in the final 5 minutes made it more comfortable than it actually was.
Lots of credit should go to quins players and coaches. They were much better than the last time we played them. It was a good contest.
