Banbury started this match being unbeaten throughout the season and knowing Grove would be travelling up wanting to upset this run of results and overturn the close game earlier this season.
Banbury kicked off the first half and chased their kick well into the wind. Banbury scored their first try of the game with a great set piece play with Sean Bannister carrying though the tackles and off loading to Jack Briggs to score by the posts.
Banbury were still celebrating their try and not focusing on the game ahead of them. Grove took advantage of this and scored on the right flank forcing Banbury behind the posts with work to do. Missed and low tackles had lead them here.
From this Banbury were stringing passes but errors capitalised the chances out there for quick reply scoring. Banbury finally got the ball moving with runners supporting runners and ball carriers breaking through tackles. Liam Lloyd and Felix Marot combining well together to get through the defence. This happened multiple times in the first half with ball carrier after ball carrier. All of Banbury players wanted the meat. Try’s from Robbie Cooke and Jack Briggs brought the first half to an end.
Oscar Triggs orchestrated the second half well with a great individual performance and getting the pack around the field. Further try’s were scored by Sean Bannister, Lewis Wheeler, Captain Stephen Potter and man of the match Felix Marot. The second half performance had shut Grove out and the frustrations started building, but Banbury capitalised at the chances and made up from the first half slowness. Young Jake Relton had a stand out performance constantly beating defenders with cracking running lines and tackling everything in sight no matter the size.
It was a fantastic team display by the growing Banbury team who are getting better as the weeks go on. The final score was Banbury 2’s 55 vs 5 Grove 2’s.
Banbury are now 22 points at the top of their league knowing other teams are wanting to upset their winning run.
