Banbury Bulls ran in five tries to defeat Old Newtonians 34-11 at Bodicote Park.
The visitors scored first through a penalty, with Bulls fly half Joe Mills replying in kind.
Full back Dave Taylor bagged Banbury’s first try, converted by Mills, who did the same to his own try scored after a neat sidestep direct from the restart.
Newtonians managed another penalty, but increasing pressure on the Newts line saw a number of drives just held up short. The visitors tryline was eventually breached by prop Michael Boscott’s who went over for his first senior try put Bulls 22-6 at the break.
The second half saw Banbury sit back on their laurels for much of the half and this saw Old Newts come back into the game for a period. It was the increasing pressure of the Old Newts pack that saw first wing Andrew Collett visit the sin-bin, paying the price for too many infringements at the breakdown by the team as a whole. During this period with a man down, Old Newts looked to claw their way back into the game and were rewarded with a try after several bullocking runs by their forwards, to make the score 22-11
However, Banbury were not going to let this one slip and some excellent quick ruck ball led to the Old Newts defence being stretched to breaking and No 8 Simon Brand bagged try number four, converted by Mills to take the home side clear 29-11.
Banbury sealed the victory by scoring with the last play of the game as Collett made up for his time in the sin-bin by dotting down in the corner to make the final score 34-11.
