Banbury RUFC continue their Regional 1 Midlands campaign this Saturday with a second successive away fixture as the Bulls travel to Ivor Preece Field to face Broadstreet RFC.

Head Coach Soane Tongaʻuiha and Director of Rugby Matt Goode take their side to Warwickshire looking to build on an impressive opening-day performance at Syston, where Banbury began the new season with a 47–26 victory.

Broadstreet, meanwhile, are back at Level 5 following promotion last season and will be looking to respond after beginning their campaign with a narrow defeat at Bridgnorth.

Opening Day Statement
Banbury could hardly have asked for a more encouraging start to the new Regional 1 Midlands season.

Travelling to a Syston side returning from National 2, the Bulls produced a seven-try performance to claim a 47–26 victory at Barkby Road and leave Leicestershire with a full five-point return.

It was a positive first competitive outing of the season following the delayed start to the community campaign and provided an early reward for the work undertaken by Tongaʻuiha, Goode and the wider coaching group throughout pre-season.

Saturday offers another opportunity to build momentum, although Banbury will be well aware of the challenge awaiting them at Ivor Preece Field.

The Challenge: Broadstreet RFC
Broadstreet return to Regional 1 Midlands for 2026–27 following two seasons at Level 6.

After finishing runners-up in Regional 2 Midlands East in 2024–25, Broadstreet went one step further in their pursuit of promotion last season.

A third-place finish in Regional 2 Midlands East earned them a place in the promotion pathway, and a strong conclusion to the campaign eventually secured their return to Level 5.

Broadstreet defeated Bedford Athletic 29–22, Peterborough 61–26 and Stow-on-the-Wold 54–38 during the promotion phase before travelling to Drybrook for the Regional 1 Accession Final.

A 42–31 victory in Gloucestershire completed their promotion and returned the Coventry-based club to Regional 1 Midlands.

Their first league match back at this level came last weekend away to Bridgnorth. Broadstreet pushed their hosts throughout before narrowly losing 38–33, demonstrating immediately that they are capable of competing on their return to the division.

Familiar Opposition
Saturday's fixture comes less than a month after Banbury and Broadstreet met at the same venue during pre-season.

The Bulls travelled to Ivor Preece Field on Saturday 5th September and came away with a 43–14 victory.

While that afternoon provided useful preparation for both clubs, the competitive landscape is now very different, with league points at stake and both sides having completed their opening Regional 1 Midlands fixtures.

Banbury will therefore be expecting a very different contest this weekend.
