Match Preview: Banbury RUFC vs Bournville RFC
Saturday 21st March 2026 | Graf UK Stadium

Banbury RUFC return to the Graf UK Stadium this weekend as they host Bournville RFC in Round 20 of the Regional 1 Midlands campaign.

The Bulls arrive in strong form following a dramatic 32–29 away victory over Bridgnorth RFC, a result that continues an impressive run of performances as the season enters its closing stages.

Head Coach Soane Tongaʻuiha and Director of Rugby Matt Goode will be keen for their side to maintain that momentum as Banbury look to build on their recent results.

Banbury’s Season So Far
Banbury’s campaign has been defined by resilience, attacking firepower and a number of narrow contests. The Bulls have produced several standout performances throughout the season, particularly in recent weeks.

  • R19: Bridgnorth 29–32 Banbury

Recent weeks have seen Banbury deliver some of their most convincing performances of the campaign, including the 92–0 win over Nuneaton and the hard-fought away victory at Bridgnorth.

The Reverse Fixture
When the sides met earlier in the season in Round 10, Bournville ran out 54–17 winners on their home ground. The result represented one of Banbury’s toughest afternoons of the campaign and will provide added motivation for the Bulls heading into Saturday’s match.

With home advantage this time around, Banbury will be aiming to produce a strong response and show the progress the squad has made since that November fixture.

The Opposition: Bournville RFC
Based in Birmingham, Bournville RFC are one of the most established clubs in Midlands rugby. Known for their strong player development pathways and physical style of play, Bournville consistently field competitive sides in Regional 1 Midlands.

They are traditionally well organised in defence and capable of playing a direct, structured game that puts pressure on opposition set pieces and breakdown areas.

Banbury will need to match that physical intensity while maintaining the attacking tempo that has served them well in recent fixtures.

Key Focus Areas for Banbury

  • Maintain Recent Momentum
  • The Bulls have produced several excellent performances in recent weeks and will be looking to carry that confidence into this home fixture.
  • Control the Set Piece
  • Bournville are traditionally strong up front, making scrum and lineout execution vital for Banbury.
  • Discipline and Game Management
  • Many of Banbury’s earlier defeats came by narrow margins. Maintaining composure and discipline will be key.
  • Attacking Efficiency
  • Banbury’s attacking form has been impressive in recent rounds. Converting opportunities will again be crucial.

Final Thoughts
With the season entering its final stages, every fixture carries added significance. Bournville will provide a stern test, but Banbury return to the Graf UK Stadium with confidence and momentum.

Following a dramatic win away at Bridgnorth and several strong performances in recent rounds, the Bulls will be aiming to continue their upward trajectory and deliver another big performance in front of the home supporters.
