Perkins Appointed Transition Manager

Owen 'Perky' Perkins named BRUFC Transition Manager

Banbury Rugby Union Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Owen Perkins (“Perky”) as Transition Manager.

While this role has not formally existed in recent years, Perky has been carrying out the responsibilities in an unofficial capacity with considerable success. The BRUFC Management Team felt it was only right that the position be reinstated and formally recognised.

Perky currently maintains contact with over 50 players within the boys’ U23 group and several within the girls’ pathway. Many of these players are now in further education or employment away from Banbury, and Perky works proactively to ensure they remain connected to the club and are supported in picking up games when they return.

Anyone involved in the day-to-day life of the club will know Perky well. His approachable nature and genuine care for players make him ideally suited to supporting young athletes as they transition from Colts into senior rugby.

A lifelong Banbury man, Perky joined BRUFC in 1990, progressing through Minis and Juniors into Colts before successfully making the transition himself. He went on to represent the club over 400 times across the senior section, from 1st XV to Vets, captaining the 2nd XV along the way.

Coaching soon followed, and Perky has since worked across Minis, Juniors and spent three years with the Colts, before returning to the younger age groups with his son, Harry.

We thank Perky for his continued commitment to the club and look forward to seeing the impact of this important role in strengthening the pathway from junior to senior rugby at Banbury.
