Children of any experience and ability are always welcome at Banbury Rugby Club.
Banbury’s 2014/15 Youth Rugby season gets under way at 10am on Sunday 31st August 2014 at Bodicote Park (behind Bannatyne's Gym on the Oxford Road – click here to jump to a map).
Scroll down this page to find the relevant contact person for your child’s school year – they’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Alternatively, if you already know which age-group they’ll be in, use the drop-down menus at the top of this page to jump straight to the relevant section. And of course you are very welcome to simply turn up at 10am on any September in Sunday and give it a go!
Each new season Banbury RUFC encourages players of all ages and abilities to come along and find out about rugby on a NO-LIKE-NO-PAY basis. Players can join the relevant age group on Sundays in September for some physical exercise, basic skills training, plus a huge amount of fun!
You will pay NO MONEY UP-FRONT and your child can wear any suitable sports clothing, however we would strongly recommend wearing boots with studs (football boots are fine) and a mouth guard. All we ask is that you fill in a registration form on your first visit for identification and insurance purposes.
Then, if your son or daughter decides to join us for further training and competitive matches from October onwards, they will need to pay a one-off annual subscription fee.
The new season’s fees have been kept at last season’s levels! Therefore for the 2014/15 season the subscription for a Minis player (Under 6 to Under 12) will be £55, for a Junior player (Under 13 to Under 18) it will be £65.
A Family Membership is also available and it represents exceptional value for 3 or more members. In 2014/15 for a subscription fee of £150 members will be able to register any number of their immediate family.
Unlike many other sports there are NO ADDITIONAL MATCH OR TRAINING FEES to pay for Mini or Junior players and specific equipment required is both minimal and inexpensive.
In summary, players will benefit from:
- Fully RFU qualified coaches, referees and first aiders
- Regular friendly fixtures on Sunday mornings at home and away
- Mid-week early evening training sessions (day varies by age group)
- Competing in fun festivals and competitive tournaments
- Opportunities to tour (most age groups, at additional cost)
- Unrivalled playing facilities at Bodicote Park
- Making life-long friendships
- Developing team-working and life-skills
- HAVING LOTS OF FUN!

Suitable mouth guards can be purchased from most reputable sports shops. If you prefer to purchase a tailor-made mouth guard then an approved supplier (www.opro.com) will be operating from the Club Bar from 9.00 am on Sunday 31st August to take an impression of your child’s teeth. Your usual dentist may also be able to supply tailor-made mouth guards.
Please note that ALL parents of Youth Section players are required to provide help during the season to allow the Club to function. Banbury is a true grass-roots community rugby club and simply couldn’t operate without this additional source of labour. The duties are very light and include things like serving teas and coffees, acting as car-parkers and serving in the Club Bar. If any parents are not prepared to provide help then higher subscription fees will apply.
