Banbury RUFC’s walking rugby team, the Hotsteppers, were in fine form on Sunday as they claimed the Bowl at the first-ever Northampton Saints Walking Rugby Tournament, held at the iconic Franklin’s Gardens on Father’s Day.
The event, which featured teams from across the region, saw Banbury emerge victorious after a fantastic team performance, culminating in a 5–3 win over a mixed Old Leamingtonians side in the final. The Hotsteppers showed their trademark blend of determination, teamwork and good humour throughout the tournament.
Special recognition goes to those players who turned out just hours after attending the club’s Centenary Ball the night before – a true testament to their commitment and club spirit. A highlight of the day came from Banbury’s oldest player, Mick Goode, who rolled back the years to walk in two tries against Northampton in the group stages.
With the Saints planning to host the tournament on a bi-annual basis, Banbury are already looking forward to defending their Bowl title in the next edition.
The Banbury Hotsteppers play every Friday evening at 7:00pm at the club. Whether you're a seasoned veteran, returning to the game, or trying rugby for the first time, everyone is welcome to join in for a fun, social evening of walking rugby.
