A few of the Belles have already been in action post-Christmas as a ‘loan’ of four players to Witney Angels was arranged for their recent trip to Hucclecote RFC.

Jo Lovell, Elli Cousins, Keeli Wood and Josie Murray - who was having her first ever rugby game - traveled to boost Witney's numbers.

Hucclecote secured a narrow 17-12 win over Witney due to a very astute overlapping game and taking advantage of the space. Both of Witney’s tries came from Banbury girls - a quick tap-and-go at pace from Belles Skipper Keeli Wood (pictured above) saw her break through the gain line and score under the posts, duly converted by Witney's scrum half.

Then in the second half, after some fierce defending by Witney holding strong on their ten metre line, the Witney scrum half broke free with Wood in support, The ball was popped to Wood, and then once more outside to Josie Murray, who ran in a try on her debut just wide of the posts.

Jo Lovell also had a strong game, playing only her second game as the replacement scrum half, and had a very good twenty minutes. Elli Cousins played at ten and twelve and ran some great hard lines.

Well done ladies and good luck at Silhillians!
