Banbury’s summer touch rugby programme is now in full swing with opportunities to play in both social and more competitive matches.

Banbury Rugby Club switches to the touch rugby format in the summer months which is a fast-growing non-contact form of the sport. Last summer saw over 100 players each Tuesday evening at Bodicote Park and organiser Gareth Thomas reports even greater interest this year.

Gareth said; “For this year we have added a competitive element to our existing social touch rugby for those wanting to push themselves a bit more. Sponsored by O2 it is effectively the ‘expert’ group within the Club’s touch rugby programme”.

“Last week we played three matches against local opponents Wellsbourne, winning two and drawing one. We rounded off the evening with a convivial pizza supper which epitomises the friendly nature of touch rugby.”

The Club’s social touch rugby is open to all players of any ability and allows girls and boys, mums and dads, to keep fit and have fun throughout the summer. The sessions are held at Bodicote Park (behind Bannatyne’s gym) from 7pm every Tuesday evening and are completely free for people to try out the sport. Absolutely no prior rugby experience is necessary!
